About

Backgammon boards cut from leather and made by hand, one at a time, in one studio.

What we make

Backgammon boards, in two forms. The Drifter rolls into its own case with a strap, and travels. The Homestead lies flat on a wood backing, on a table or on a wall.

Each is made in sizes named for the long edge in inches: the Drifter in 22 and 26, the Homestead in 22, 26 and 30. Every board comes with 30 players, 4 dice and a doubling cube.

The material

The leather is the subject. Every point is cut by hand and set in place, inlaid or stitched, so no two boards are exactly alike. Nothing is printed, and nothing is there to disguise what the material is.

A board is not meant to stay untouched. As games are played, the leather darkens, softens and takes on the marks of the hands that use it.

Perfection is not the aim. Integrity is.

The studio

The way we work was figured out in a garage in the Texas Hill Country. The boards are made today at Folly Farm, our family farm north of Boulder, Colorado.
